Picking a venue is often times the first box a couple check off when planning their wedding, and it is one of the most important choices that will be made throughout the entire process. Whitehall House and Gardens
3110 Lexington Rd, Louisville, KY 40206
If you are looking for a quintessential southern Estate, you have found it! Whitehall, built in 1855, is one of Louisville’s most popular and elegant wedding venues. This classic 19th century antebellum home offers beautifully maintained interiors and meticulous, lush gardens, making a beautiful setting for any wedding day. It is one of the venues I find myself at time and time again, and I have to say it never disappoints.
500 S 4th St, Louisville, KY 40202
A gorgeous hotel chock full of storied Ballrooms and luxurious accommodations, the Seelbach is located in the Downtown Louisville Area. Now a Hilton owned property, one of the most unique features of the hotel is the Rathskeller, the only surviving Rookwood-Pottery room left on earth. Originally a bar, it is said to be the location where F. Scott Fitzgerald began writing his masterpiece “The Great Gatsby.” Today, it is the perfect setting for private events of up to 300 people. Make sure you check out the grand staircase on the tour, and ask about some of the legends (including Al Capone, and even a ghost story).
3810 Old Westport Rd, La Grange, KY 40031
Ashbourne Farms boasts acres upon acres of rolling bluegrass countryside and rustic charm paired with pristine landscaping, manicured event lawns, thoughtful touches, and a breathtaking indoor venue filled with luxurious details. Pair that with a world class culinary team, and you have the makings of a perfect day. You will be hard pressed to find a more iconic, understated location than this perfectly detailed venue.
The Speed Art Museum
2035 S 3rd St, Louisville, KY 40208
The Speed Art Museum is a contemporary, light filled space is located adjacent to the University of Louisville. The museum’s spaces range from the elegantly classic to crisp, clean and modern. Encompassed by a reflecting pool the Museum features and open design as well. The new Atrium is the perfect place for to ceremonies and pre-dinner cocktails, while the newly built Grand Hall features stunning acoustics that make it ideal for wedding receptions and large events. I have to admit some bias, as a life long art and museum lover there was no way I could include a venue list without putting this stunner on it.
The Filson Historic Society
1310 S 3rd St, Louisville, KY 40208
Located in Old Louisville, this organization was named in honor of John Filson, Kentucky’s first historian and consists of newly built Owsley Brown II History Center and newly renovated Ferguson Mansion. The property is located close to both Central Park and downtown and features designs by some of the same team that created the Show Barn at Ashbourne, listed above. If you are looking for an intimate, functional space that blends the modern with the classic AND is located centrally, you absolutly must put the Filson on your list.
What do you think of this list? Is the venue you have been dreaming of on it, or are there any in and around Kentucky that I should make sure I check out? Let me know in the comments below!
