A word on Front Porch Sessions

Hi friends.
We have all seen the “front porch sessions” or “free content” or “free headshots” making the rounds on social media lately.
I personally have been tagged, texted, or sent dozens of sweet messages about people encouraging me to partake in something like this movement.

I believe it is all with the best of intention.

But I have to tell y’all: My business is not essential. I love my job, but I’m not saving lives. Our beloved governor has asked all of us in non essential industries to stay home. It’s time to step up.

I’m committed to the safety and well-being of my community. I will not be a honeybee. You and I are not the exception to the rule, and I am going to do my part to end this.

I know I might seem like a killjoy. I know there is going to be *someone* in the photo world who will bring up focal length 🙄 I know it FEELS harmless. But at the end of the day, our global health care community is struggling to make sure we are safe. They are working long hours, watching people die, and some of them are making the choice to isolate from their own families to keep the rest of us safe.

I miss my friends and clients. I miss feeling the sense of purpose my job gives me. But my boredom is not worth a life, and I am choosing to make the harder choice. I am not photographing people right now.

Do this, my friends. Stay home. Do it for those who have lost their loved ones and weren’t able to visit them or attend a funeral. Do it for the men and women in healthcare who are staying apart from their own children in fear of spreading this disease, do this for brides and grooms who have had to postpone their wedding they have been planning

I will be at home. FaceTime me, I’ll teach you about the settings on your camera your aunt got you for Christmas that one year.

Also, if you are hard hit and you DO need
Content or family photos or headshots, when this is all said and done and we are all back to work, reach out. I gotchu. We are in this together.
