Its that time of year again, my friends. Having photographed dozen and dozen of weddings in the beautiful state of Kentucky and across the country, I thought it was high time I compiled another list of top venues in the state (see my past list here). Here are my top FIVE dreamy venues that are umatched in pulling off a perfect wedding for couples tying the knot, and are easy on the eyes to boot. One or two are even located in my home base of Louisville (hint hint for all my engaged or soon to be engaged clients!)
The Speed Art Museum
No stranger to my list, this year the Speed is snagging my #1 spot. The Speed is a contemporary, light filled space is located adjacent to the University of Louisville fit for any couple looking for a modern but luxurious location. The museum’s spaces range from the elegantly classic to streamlined, clean and urban. As you enter, you are greeted by a shallow reflecting pool that kisses the exterior. The Museum features and open, grand design, with the Atrium showcasing a perfect place for to ceremonies and pre-dinner cocktails. The newly imagined Grand Hall features stunning acoustics that make it ideal for wedding receptions and large events, and is the crown jewel of the building.
Hazelnut Farms is one of the Kentucky’s newer venues, but it not short on charm! Perfectly tucked onto a farm of 40 rolling acres of grasses and gardens, the private event space features a lake, fountain, island, and lakeside smokehouse original to the property. The stunning event space is bright, light filled and offers a sweeping view of the property. A perfect choice for couples looking for close proximity to the city, while enjoying the pastoral grace of Kentucky.
Hermitage Farm is a celebration of the agricultural heritage that Kentucky is famous for. The Main House has 4,000 square feet, perfect for small gatherings indoors. Luxury amenities abound: restored original hardwood floors, functioning fireplaces, and original artwork. The surrounding grounds are am exemplary choice for open-air ceremonies & tented receptions.
Debuting this year on the list is non other than this Lexington Kentucky gem. A collective of Kentucky artisans joined together to help bring the vision of a sophisticated and inviting environment to life in the Apiary. As you arrive at Apiary’s entrance, notice the gorgeous, hand forged wrought iron gates. Walking through the gates into the meticulous outdoor space and experience the fine details of lush landscaping before heading into the elegant dining space. The Apiary is a truly a space for an incredible celebration, not to mention a photography dreamscape.
The Seelbach Hotel
Another return venue on my list is the Seelbach Hilton Hotel in Louisville.
Chock full of storied Ballrooms and luxurious accommodations, the Seelbach is located in the downtown area. Now a Hilton owned property, one of the most unique features of the hotel is the Rathskeller, the only surviving Rookwood-Pottery room left on earth. Originally a bar, it is said to be the location where F. Scott Fitzgerald began writing his masterpiece “The Great Gatsby.” Today, it is the perfect setting for private events of up to 300 people. Make sure you check out the grand staircase on the tour, and ask about some of the legends (including Al Capone, and even a ghost story).
And there you have it, my friends! The years roundup of gorgeous venues awaits your finishing touches. What are your thoughts? I would love to know if there is a favorite venue I missed, let me know in the comments.
